Top 20 Movies of 2007

Finally got around to compiling a list of my top 20 movies from 2007. It took me a while because there was so much I hadn't seen. So, without further adieu, here they are:

1) Grindhouse
Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez together. Awesome right there. Two of my favorite directors. And those fake trailers? Schweet.
2) Hot Fuzz
Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright's second full-length collaboration. Outstanding work, gentlemen. Shaun of the Dead captured my attention, and you continue to bring it on. Can't wait for the third installment in the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy.
3) Juno
Finally, it's about time that somebody wrote some amazing dialogue, rivaling Kevin Smith. Very real dialogue, no wonder Diablo Cody won the Oscar.
4) Into the Wild
Never was an Emile fan, but this movie was simply outstanding. Amazing movie, makes me want to read the book.
5) Sweeney Todd
Watched it in theaters, then twice in the same week it came out on dvd. Best musical ever.
6) 300
Awesome fight scenes, I am a guy. I could watch this over and over.
7) Stardust
Truly one of the most amazing fantasy films to have ever come out. Neil Gaiman is an extraordinary writer with an incredible vision, and this movie really sticks to how he writes.
8) There Will Be Blood
Couldn't get enough of it. Even watched the silent black and white film on the dvd about the beginnings of petroleum. Very insightful look into America's past.
9) No Country for Old Men
Going back to their Fargo roots, the Coens are at it again. Let's hope they keep it up with Burn After Reading.
10) Zodiac
Very long. People complained about the length, but I thought it was awesome. It made me want to read more and more about the Zodiac killer. Very captivating, especially if you like the crime genre, and real stories.
11) Knocked Up
One of the funniest movies I've seen in a very long time. Seriously.
12) Ratatouille
Pixar never fails me, honestly. They make the most amazing movies for children, but they have so much relevance to teenagers, and adults. Everybody can relate to the themes.
13) Wristcutters: A Love Story
Wasn't sure what to expect from this one, but it was incredible. Five minutes after watching it, I ordered the book off of Amazon.com. One of THE best independent films I've seen lately.
14) The Simpsons Movie
It was about time we got one of these. Long overdue, but they did it. Absolutely hilarious, and stuck to the style of the TV show very well, I thought.
15) Southland Tales
Everyone bashed this one, but I thought Richard Kelly really came through and showed us his bizarre style of satire. Very satirical look at our world.
16) Death at a Funeral
Hilarious British comedy. I will have to look out for more like this one.
17) American Gangster
Russell Crowe, you've done it again. I hear you are an asshole in real life, but you are a damn good actor.
18) Shoot 'Em Up
My second guilty pleasure action movie. Badass action sequences in this one, as well as an awesome storyline. They are making a second one, let's hope it lives up to this one.
19) Assassination of Jesse James
I've watched a lot of westerns lately, trying to get into the genre. I watched a bunch of Sergio Leone movies, as well as the new 3:10 to Yuma, and none of them really did it for me. But this one did. It was a very well put together masterpiece based on the life of the most famous outlaw.
20) Superbad
Yet again, Apatow's crew shows just how funny they can be. They are starting to rival Kevin Smith and his cronies in my book.
